Alaska Airlines Announces New Service to Kona First-ever service to the Big Island Begins Dec. 20

SACRAMENTO - Alaska Airlines today announced plans to begin thrice-weekly nonstop flights from Sacramento to Hawaii’s Kona International Airport (KOA) on the island of Hawaii beginning Dec. 20, 2018. The new service is significant as it marks the first time nonstop service has been offered between Sacramento and the Big Island. Tickets are on sale now at www.alaskaair.com

“We know our customers love Hawaii, even in sunny California. That’s a big reason we’re excited to add this new connection between Sacramento and the Big Island,” said John Kirby, vice president of capacity planning and alliances at Alaska Airlines. “This new route shows Alaska’s ongoing commitment to continued growth and investment throughout the West Coast.”

“We are pleased that Alaska Airlines is expanding its service to Hawaii from Sacramento.  This new service to Kona marks Sacramento International Airport’s first scheduled service to the Big Island, and enhances the portfolio of nonstop service between SMF and the Islands,” said Mark Haneke, manager of air service development and marketing for Sacramento International Airport.

Kona is known for its dry weather, outdoor activities, and sun-soaked beaches. The Island of Hawaii is a popular destination for eco-tourism and for coffee plantations featuring the Arabica blend for which Kona is famous.

Kona joins Maui as the second nonstop island destination offered by Alaska Airlines at Sacramento International. Alaska Airlines also offers nonstop service to Boise, Seattle, Portland, San Diego, and Cabo San Lucas.
