Holiday Parcels Temporarily Increase Mather Flights

SACRAMENTO, CA. — Mather Airport anticipates increased flight operations through January in response to the normal increase in cargo parcel volume during the holidays. Cargo operations account for approximately 8 daily operations per day, on average. Flights primarily occur Monday through Friday.

Cargo operations will peak the week of December 19, when UPS more than doubles their average daily flight operations from eight per day to 18 per day. According to comScore, a digital analysis firm, online shopping increased by 12% during the first 35 days of online holiday shopping in 2010.

In addition to holiday packages, cargo carriers such as UPS carry retail stock, manufacturing supplies and more. Cargo flights are critical to ensure that the Sacramento Region quickly receives vital goods such as pharmaceuticals.

The Sacramento County Department of Airports is responsible for planning, developing, operating and maintaining the county’s four airports: Sacramento International Airport, Executive Airport, Mather Airport and Franklin Field. Sacramento International Airport offers more than 155 daily nonstop flights on 12 domestic and international carriers to 36 destinations.
