‘Tis the Season: Sacramento International Airport Holiday Travel Season Kicks off This Week

SACRAMENTO, CA.Sacramento International Airport stands ready to serve holiday travelers with traffic management plans, travel tips and live entertainment. The Air Transport Association predicts that 24 million passengers will fly during the Week of Thanksgiving. Due to the volume of passengers flying this season, passengers are encouraged to “pack their patience,” prepare for their departure and allowing ample time for their holiday departures for a stress-free experience.

“Thanksgiving is a time to connect with family and friends,” said Hardy Acree, the Sacramento County Airport System’s Director of Airports. “During this time, many people are flying who may not have flown for months, if not years. By being prepared and informed, all passengers can travel like a frequent flyer, reducing wait times for all passengers.”

Passengers should allow sufficient time to locate available parking and be shuttled to the terminals, if necessary. Parking in the Terminal A Parking Garage is in high demand year-round and the structure often reaches capacity. The Economy Parking lot is also popular during the holidays. Parking lot closures –when they occur - are posted on overhead roadside signage are broadcaston530AM,whichhasarangeofuptofivemilesfromtheairport. Postedrateswill apply for the lot a driver parks in and discounts will not be offered.

Due to ongoing Big Build construction, a ll on-airport traffic currently flows past Terminal A. To reduce congestion, all traffic will be divided on approach to TerminalA. Drivers are advised to be alert and watch for personnel directing traffic and pedestrians crossing the roadway. It is against the law to not stop for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Parking and waiting at the curb is strictly prohibited due to security regulations. Rather than circling the airport or risking a ticket, the free Cell Phone Lot offers a perfect place to wait for arriving guests. Drivers in the lot should wait until their guests have collected luggage and are positioned at the curb before proceeding to the terminal for a perfect, stress-free pick-up.
For those who wish to park in one of the Hourly Parking Lots to greet their guests in the terminal, International has live entertainment scheduled in Terminal A Baggage Claim during the weekofThanksgivingandeveryFridayandSaturdayuntilDecember24. Withavarietyof music genres, the schedule has a performance for virtually everyone.
