Sacramento International Airport Ready for Busy Thanksgiving Travel Week
Preparation, Patience Key to Stress-Free Holiday Travel
SACRAMENTO, CA. — Travelers rushing to visit family and friends for Thanksgiving by way of Sacramento International Airport can reduce holiday travel stress by being well prepared for departure. With new secondary screening procedures and Big Build construction continuing, travelers and those picking up loved ones at the airport need to be aware of some changes.
What do I need to know about security at Sacramento International Airport? Travelers concerned about new security screening procedures should review guidelines for carry-on baggage – especially the 3-1-1 liquid and gel rule – and be well prepared to enter the checkpoint. Of the two secondary screening procedures – Backscatter scan and enhanced pat-down – Sacramento International only has the enhanced pat-down procedure available. The majority of passengers who are well prepared for the checkpoint will likely not require secondary screening after passing through the familiar primary detection devices.
Does Sacramento International Airport have enough parking for everyone? The airport is well prepared for increased numbers of travelers during Thanksgiving. While drivers should be prepared to possibly find that their favorite parking location is filled to capacity and have ample time for a change of plan, Sacramento International is prepared to accommodate travelers on site. Current parking conditions are broadcast to a 5 mile radius from the airport on 530 AM. Parking lot closures – if and when they occur - will also be posted on roadside signage and on the overhead parking way finding signs. Posted rates will apply for the lot a vehicle is parked in; discounts will not be offered.
Will Big Build construction efforts affect roadway traffic at Sacramento International Airport? The roadway that once allowed drivers to travel directly to Terminal B has closed,
requiring all vehicle traffic to move past Terminal A. Traffic will be divided during peak periods to help traffic move with ease but congestion is anticipated. Drivers picking up passengers should either use the free Cell Phone lot to wait until passengers collect luggage prior to proceeding to the terminal or park in one of the Hourly Parking areas and meet their passengers in the terminal.
