Airport Upgrading Garage Lights to LEDs; May Impact Garage Availability
Sacramento International Airport is replacing light fixtures and performing maintenance work on the parking garage that serves Terminals A and B. The six-month project will require individual floors to be closed and may result in the garage being filled to capacity more often than usual, airport officials say.
When the garage closes, information will be posted on overhead signs and customers will be directed to the daily lot just south of the garage.
The airport is replacing 1,800 high-pressure sodium lights with energy-efficient LEDs. The upgrade will improve visibility and save the Sacramento County Department of Airports $167,000 a year in energy and maintenance costs.
Workers will also clean the ceiling and floor deck and repaint parking stall and traffic markings in the six-story structure.
The first floor to the garage closed on Feb. 20 and will be partly open March 10. Work will continue floor by floor in 3-4 week increments, with a break for anticipated holiday travel from April 11-24.
The project is scheduled to be completed by July 18.
