County Executive Selects Airport Director

On March 12, the County Executive will recommend John Wheat to the Board of Supervisors for appointment as the Director of Airports.

“John is an excellent choice for Sacramento County as he brings more than 30 years of airport management experience including operations, strategic planning in developing competitive cost structures, and revenue growth,” said County Executive Bradley J. Hudson. “His broad-based experience will be critical to the continued success of our airport system.”

His experience includes:

• April 2011 – Present: Executive Director of Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.

• August 1999 – April 2011: Deputy Executive Director of the Hillsborough County Aviation Authority (Tampa)

• February 1983 – May 1992: Deputy Executive Director of Finance and Administration for Salt Lake City Corporation as the Department of Airports

Following the Board of Supervisors’ approval, he will begin employment with the county on April 14, 2013. The salary for the position is $172,072.08 to $189,715.68 annually.

The Sacramento County Department of Airports is responsible for planning, developing, operating and maintaining the county’s four airports: Sacramento International Airport, Executive Airport, Mather Airport and Franklin Field. Sacramento International Airport offers more than 155 daily nonstop flights on 12 domestic and international carriers to 36 destinations.
