EVA Flight Training Academy Breaks Ground at Mather Airport
Rancho Cordova, CA — The Sacramento County Department of Airports is proud to highlight the expansion of the EVA Flight Training Academy at Mather Airport with the construction of a new four-story student dormitory. This morning ground was broken on the new dormitory which will include 87 studio apartments and six guest suites and will be located adjacent to the academy’s main campus.
"EVA's continued growth at Mather is a major asset to Sacramento County," said Director of Airports for Sacramento County, Cindy Nichol. "This dormitory project brings long-term economic benefit to our region, creating jobs, attracting international talent, and reinforcing Mather Airport as a critical part of our community’s aviation future."
Since 2014, EVA has completed the construction of an office and classroom building as well as a maintenance hangar in which they perform all the maintenance on their flight training aircraft. The project is expected to be completed around the end of 2026. This final phase will provide on-site housing for their international students working on their pilot certificates
"As Sacramento County undertakes a concerted effort to fully realize the regional economic hub that is Mather Field, it is exciting to see the investment by EVA Flight Training Academy to expand their operations to include a dormitory where aspiring pilots from all over the world can stay while they learn," said Supervisor Pat Hume. Mather Airport is in Hume’s district.
EVA Air, a premier international airline headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, is globally recognized for its safety, service, and innovation. The airline’s ongoing investment in its U.S.-based training academy reinforces the region’s growing role in global aviation education and workforce development. Future pilots from around the world will have access to modern amenities such as a gym, library, discussion rooms, and a café restaurant, offering a well-rounded and comfortable student experience.
This investment demonstrates EVA’s commitment not only to sustainability and aviation excellence but also to the local community.
In addition to strengthening Sacramento County’s reputation in global aviation training, the academy’s expansion opens new doors for community partnerships, local vendor support, and potential outreach programs tied to the academy’s facilities.
The Department of Airports looks forward to continued collaboration with EVA Air as they elevate their training environment and help shape the next generation of aviation professionals.
