Expedited screening is coming to Sacramento International Airport

Frequent flyers at Sacramento International  Airport can look forward to an additional convenience later this year when the Transportation Security Administration’s  Pre✓™ program  becomes available at both terminals.

TSA Pre✓ is an expedited screening program that allows pre-approved airline travelers to leave on their shoes, light jackets and belts, keep laptops in cases, and stash allowable three-ounce liquids, aerosols and gels in carry-on bags.

Airport officials working with the TSA to open the special screening lane by the end of the year.

Passengers who are eligible for expedited screening include U.S. frequent flyers who have already been invited by participating airlines, and by U.S. citizens who are members of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Global Entry program.

At Sacramento International Airport, airlines who participate in TSA Pre include American, Alaska, Hawaiian in Terminal B and Delta, United and US Airways in Terminal A. JetBlue and Southwest are expected to participate in future.

“This is very positive news.  Expedited screening  takes a little of the hassle out of flying and we are excited that the TSA is moving forward with this initiative,” said John Wheat, Director of Airports for the Sacramento County Department of Airports. “We are also happy to hear that Southwest and JetBlue plan to be a part of this program in the future."

The TSA has announced it is expanding TSA Pre✓ to 60 additional airports by the end of 2013. The agency also announced it will launch an application program later this year to allow more citizens to be eligible for expedited screening.
