Sacramento Airport Continues Upwards Trend in Passenger Growth
SACRAMENTO – Sacramento International Airport (SMF) continues its upward trend in passenger traffic. For the eight months through August, traffic was up 5.1% over the same period of time in 2015.
August also marked the airport’s s 29th consecutive month of increased passenger growth.
The summer was especially busy. The airport served 2.7 million customers in June, July and August of 2016, an increase of 120,000 passengers over 2015. The increase was bolstered by new nonstop service to Baltimore and increased seasonal capacity.
“We expect to see continued improvements in passenger growth for the rest of the year, based on the flight schedules and seat capacity information we have received from the airlines,” said Director of Airports John Wheat. “We are pleased with the improvements we have seen in 2016 and are grateful to our customers for choosing Sacramento International Airport for their travel plans.”
Airport officials expect the airport to serve 10 million customers before the end of the year, a notable benchmark that it has not achieved since 2008.
Travelers can look forward to several customer service enhancements.Global Entry kiosks in the international arrivals area in Terminal B. Automated passport control kiosks to further expedite international travel are expected in the fall.
