Summer Travel Tips: Arrive Early, Know Your Parking Options, Be Prepared
SACRAMENTO –Sacramento International Airport (SMF) expects to have a robust summer travel season, with 150 daily nonstop flights beckoning Sacramento travelers. Here are a few tips to make that getaway vacation a breeze.
Arrive Early. Arrive at least an hour and a half early. Consider arriving two hours early if you are checking bags, flying between 5-7 a.m., or parking in the economy lot.
Speaking of which …
Know Your Parking Options. The Economy Lot fills to capacity many summer weekends and holidays. The Daily Lot next to the garage is the next least expensive option. For just $2 a day more, you can walk or take a short shuttle to either terminal in just minutes.
Check Out Parking Availability Before You Leave. You can check parking on the new parking availability widget page, https://sacramento.aero/smf/to_and_from/parking. A map shows space availability and lot closures. If a lot is in the red zone, it’s a good idea to have a back-up lot in mind.
Enroll in PreCheck. It won’t help for your current trip, but future trips will be easier. This TSA program lets you go through screening much faster and more conveniently than the general line, and you don’t have to take off your shoes or belt .
If you haven’t enrolled already, there is a PreCheck enrollment center conveniently located on the lower level of Terminal B, next to door 4. They take walk-ins, but make an appointment and you could be in and out in 15 minutes.
